It is a non-invasive <strong>method of chemical analysis<\/strong> that offers intricate insights into chemical composition, structural nuances, phase distinctions, polymorphism, crystalline properties, and molecular interrelations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In our recent podcast episodes, we\u2019ve discussed this method extensively. Our last two guests, Gluco Active and Nourica, not only shared a well-working method of work and CEO but also introduced us to another startup sibling, Spectrally. In our latest episode, Agata Walendowska had the pleasure of speaking with Spectrally\u2019s team, including Bartosz Kawa \u2013 the CTO of the company.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So, what does Spectrally startup do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As some of you may know, our podcasts always start with the most important question: <strong>what does the startup do?<\/strong> In this case, it couldn\u2019t be any different. Our host, Agata, also began with that question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bartosz Kawa:<\/strong> <em>Spectrally as a company focuses on achieving cost savings in production processes while ensuring high product quality. We deliver a tool, a system that optimizes production processes and aids in cost savings during quality control.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea for this startup <strong>began a year ago<\/strong>. Since then, the team has been developing their business plans and improving devices to attract new clients who are eager to utilize the expertise and services offered by the startup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Raman Spectroscopy and its use in Spectrally<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are plenty of different methods on the market to analyze cosmetics, water, or painting on a molecular level. That\u2019s why we were eager to know what distinguishes this particular method from others available on the market. Bartosz told us that the biggest advantage is that in most cases, this technique <strong>does not require any sample preparation<\/strong>. He also emphasized its safety and non-invasive nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another question we asked about this method is what kind of things can be detected by Raman Spectroscopy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bartosz Kawa:<\/strong> <em>This technique is great for measuring products and substances like polymers, plastics, and water. For example, it\u2019s perfect for measuring microplastics in water, which is a common problem nowadays. But apart from that, we can mostly measure organic chemistry, including the cosmetics and food industries. It can also be used in art and archaeology.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What can Spectrally do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Spectrally operates on a SaaS (<strong>Software as a Service<\/strong>) business model. We were curious if there was a situation where the product tested by them had a different composition than the one written on the packaging. <strong>The answer may surprise you.<\/strong> Bartosz told us that they\u2019ve tested some hydrolats, which are cosmetics for soft skin. In several samples, they recognized a large amount of alcohol present, although it was not listed on the packaging and the product was intended for sensitive skin and children. This discrepancy raises questions about the production process. The point we wanted to emphasize is that some products contain substances that aren\u2019t supposed to be there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Challenges for the startup<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As usual, apart from questions about the startup, we also discussed <strong>management challenges<\/strong>. We asked the CTO about the biggest technical challenges in SaaS startups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bartosz Kawa:<\/strong> <em>We started from a higher level. We developed a system, software, and algorithm before, so it wasn\u2019t so challenging. But in terms of technology and infrastructure, meeting client requirements can be challenging, as is often the case in most industries. You have to know exactly or try to know what clients need.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our conversation ended with the last question: <strong>What is your advice for a future CEO?<\/strong> Bartosz\u2019s response was important and worth remembering: <em>the main thing is to be patient and kind but also be stubborn about your ideas. Adapt to new situations, and don\u2019t hesitate to change your approach. Verify your initial assumptions and adapt to the situation. [\u2026] You have to remember that you\u2019re not doing this alone. Working overtime will not necessarily pay off.
