Women in the Startup Field: Breaking the Glass Ceiling in Tech
There is a common saying that startups are typically a masculine world. Unfortunately, it’s not just a saying but a statistical fact. According to Startup Genome, less than 15% of tech startup founders in Europe are women. Despite this low percentage, the presence of women in the startup field is becoming more prominent as brave entrepreneurs step into this male-dominated world to achieve significant success. Interestingly, 4% of the UK’s fastest-growing tech startups are now led by women, proving that leadership excellence knows no gender.
Female Leaders
A sad reality in the startup world is the limited space for women. People often assume that women are not interested in technology, IT, or the constant pursuit of goals and purpose. Fortunately, this image is starting to change, and women are no longer being sidelined as much. More and more women are coming up with great and creative ideas that turn into well-working and successful startups. Fingers crossed for more such initiatives and a higher percentage of women in this field.
Female-Friendly Startup World
Changes in the startup world need to start from the ground up. More women must have the opportunity to bring their ideas to life. Recently, one of the Polish accelerator programs created a new project for Polish and Ukrainian female CEOs, supported by the Visa Foundation.
The Female Startup Pre-accelerator (FSP), sponsored by the Visa Foundation, is the second part of our series of programs Facilitating Female Founders. The initiative is a pre-acceleration program specifically designed for female entrepreneurs with Polish or Ukrainian citizenship. We’re on a mission to equip founders with skills to scale their startups and establish their businesses in CEE. What’s more, 10 of our participants can gain a $10,000 grant for further development of their projects.
