Futurum Technology | "No More Glucose Needles! - Introducing the GlucoActive Device for Diabetics

“No More Glucose Needles! – Introducing the GlucoActive Device for Diabetics

Posted on April 18, 2024

Diabetes is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases of civilization, affecting an estimated 422 million people worldwide. A critical aspect of managing diabetes involves measuring glucose levels through finger pricking. However, GlucoActive, a startup, offers a solution to this discomfort, which will be launching soon.

Meet Robert Stachurski, the face of GlucoActive, with whom we had the pleasure of speaking in our latest podcast episode. Without further ado, let’s delve into the world of GlucoActive and their innovative ideas.

What does GlucoActive do?

Our conversation with Robert began with the traditional first question of our Startup Stories Podcast: What does your startup do?

Robert Stachurski: “We are developing non-invasive glucometer technology that eliminates the need for finger pricking, thereby reducing pain and discomfort for patients. Our technology is based on optical methods, particularly Raman Spectroscopy.”

The Raman Spectroscopy utilized by GlucoActive allows individuals with diabetes to be free from the pain associated with finger pricking. Robert explained, “We use a laser light with a specific wavelength to irradiate the skin for a few seconds. By measuring the reflection with our detectors, we can determine the chemical composition of the skin and identify glucose levels, akin to a fingerprint.”

Advantages of the device

One of the most intriguing questions we posed was: What are the advantages of this solution, aside from being painless?

Robert Stachurski: “Another advantage is that we do not require disposable components like strips and needles, making it much more cost-effective in the long run. Additionally, our device is environmentally friendly as it generates no medical waste, unlike traditional methods, which produce millions of tons of waste.”

Who can use this device?

Another crucial topic discussed was the target demographic for this solution.

Robert Stachurski: “Anyone can use our device; however, it’s particularly suited for individuals with type 2 diabetes. It’s important to note that our current device is stationary and not suitable for continuous glucose monitoring, which is often required by individuals, especially children and teenagers, with type 1 diabetes. While they can use our device for one-time measurements, continuous monitoring may necessitate alternative solutions.”

CEO Life Hacks

In addition to discussing GlucoActive, we asked Robert about his strategies for managing three startups simultaneously. Here’s what he shared: “Running several companies simultaneously is a myth. You can manage them sequentially, but not concurrently. While I am currently the CEO of three companies, all three are based on our technology.”

Advice for CEOs

Every guest on our podcast is asked for advice for fellow CEOs of startups. Robert provided insightful guidance: “From a startup perspective, focus on proper business planning, market research, and demonstrating the efficacy of your technology. Embrace continuous learning and problem-solving, as entrepreneurship is filled with uncertainties and crises. Build a strong team and cultivate cooperative relationships, as success often hinges on collaboration. Lastly, be prepared for the long haul; starting a startup is akin to a roller coaster ride of uncertainty. If you’re not ready for the challenges and risks, it might be better to pursue other avenues.”

The idea and device presented by GlucoActive are remarkable and deserve recognition. To learn more about their innovative solution and listen to the engaging conversation between CEO Robert Stachurski and interviewer Agata Walendowska, tune in to the latest episode of Startup Stories Podcast!”
